Santa Clara is a vibrant city in the heart of Silicon Valley with many tech companies. San Jose borders Santa Clara to the east and south, while the upscale Westfield Valley Fair shopping mall straddles both cities in Santa Clara’s southeastern corner. Santa Clara contains many parks, including sprawling 52-acre Central Park. Other attractions include California’s Great America amusement park and the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers home at Levi’s Stadium.

Santa Clara offers an enticing mix of historic homes and modern new developments. There are many fine examples of eclectic mid-century architecture and homes dating back to the early 1900s. Housing options also include townhouses and condominiums with private pools.

Santa Clara is centrally located within Silicon Valley. Intel, AMD, McAfee, Nvidia, and Synaptic are just a few of the major tech firms headquartered here. The city is also home to Santa Clara University. Founded in 1776, it’s the oldest university in California. Santa Clara features many peaceful residential neighborhoods within easy reach of a wide range of restaurants, retailers, and entertainment options both within the city and in neighboring San Jose.


Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Great restaurants and shopping centers can be found at locations dotted all around Santa Clara. Il Fornaio offers authentic Italian dishes in a sophisticated setting, while Birks is an upscale steakhouse serving mouthwatering hardwood-grilled steaks, chops, and seafood. Athena Grill has an enticing menu of delicious Greek dishes such as souvlaki, gyros, and moussaka. Jasmine Fine Thai Cuisine is a local favorite for both traditional and updated contemporary takes on classic Thai dishes. Overlapping the southeastern boundary between Santa Clara and San Jose, Westfield Valley Fair is the biggest and best upscale retail destination in Silicon Valley. This sprawling shopping mall features almost 200 stores and close to 50 restaurants anchored by Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s, and Nordstrom department stores. Other premium retailers at Westfield Valley Fair include Balenciaga, Boss, Bottega Veneta, Coach, David Yurman, Giorgio Armani, Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, Prada, Saint Laurent, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Versace. Dining options include certified sustainable sushi at Bamboo Sushi, Hawaiian poke bowls at Big Fish Little Fish and Pokeatery, traditional Chinese dishes at Din Tai Fung, and seafood specialties at King Fish House. Westfield Valley Fair is directly across the street from San Jose’s prestigious Santana Row shopping and dining street. This world-class commercial district is full of upscale retailers, stylish boutiques, and outstanding restaurants with patio dining.


Things to Do

Central Park extends over 52 acres in the heart of Santa Clara. This expansive public green space contains a children’s play area, picnic facilities, lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, and an amphitheater for events. George F. Haines International Swim Center at Central Park is an outstanding aquatics facility where 58% of US Olympic synchronized swimmers have trained since the center was founded in the 1950s. Other recreational facilities at Central Park include Bob Fatjo Sports Center and the Santa Clara Tennis Center. Central Park is also home to the South Bay’s best Fourth of July fireworks show. California’s Great America is a major tourist destination on a 112-acre site with more than 40 rides and attractions. Highlights include the Gold Striker wooden roller coaster, which boasts the longest tunnel leading to the first drop of any rollercoaster in the world. Santa Clara is also home to technology exhibits at the Intel Museum and contemporary and historical art exhibitions at Triton Museum of Art. The NFL’s San Francisco 49ers play their home games at Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium. This state-of-the-art football stadium opened in 2014 and hosted Super Bowl 50 in 2016.
